The Mount Horeb boys 7th grade team recently competed in the state tournament in LaCrosse and came away with a Division 2 second place trophy. It is the highest placing of any Mount Horeb team at the state tournament. Team members include Bryce Farnsworth, Bailey Fischer, Dustin Zenz, Gunnar Nortman, Eyob Urban, Isiah Matthews, Tyler Denu, Jason Larson, and Malik Winston. Eyob Urban and Gunnar Nortman were chosen to be on the state all-star tournament team, while Bryce Farnsworth and Dustin Zenz were honorable mention.
The team also completed the season with a 37-7 record, were champions of their tri county league, school league, champions of the Mt. Horeb Troll Classic, and champions of the Pointer Invite. Coach Rob Farnsworth commented, “Winning second at state as one of the smaller teams in division 2 is quite an accomplishment. We played and beat some high quality teams and really played well. The boys played great all weekend and we were all really proud of them. We battled every game, played smart, made shots, and played hard. We couldn’t have asked for a better effort from our boys. It was a fantastic season and we look forward to this summer and next year.”
